A must for bikers

A must for bikers

God himself might have thought of adventurous bikers, when he created the beautiful landscape of The Lakelands in the middle of Jutland.

Imagine: Long soft curves, green hills and valleys, deep forests, blue skyes, mirror-like lakes, gurgling streams, cosy inns and friendly folks.

Now stop imagining and get on the motorbike.
The Danish Lakelands await!

Follow in the tracks of local motorbiker Emil Larsen

Just listen to Emil Larsen, local biker, who knows every corner of the hilly area. During spring and summer Emil and his wife Jette explore the area on their well-kept classic BMW from 1976 and they even arrange roundtrips for friends and neighbours.

- We have just about the best routes for motorbikers. You get some of the small roads almost to yourself and you can fully enjoy the many exiting curves and rises, he says and adds:
- My favourite roundtrip (please see the map) starts at the small harbour of Ry and takes you through small villages all the way up to Himmelbjerget. Take your time to enjoy the excellent curves on the south side of lake Skanderborg Sø, where Ring Monestary lay in the Middle Ages. Continue on to Ejer Bavnehøj, the highest natural point in Denmark. A stop over here is a must, the view being nothing but magnificent, recommends the expert.

- Back on the bike you should head west for Yding Skovhøj - another beautiful view – and then continue on to Voerladegaard, where you hit the road to Gl. Rye. Before arriving to the historical village, you reach a car park where vintage cars and motorbikes are on show every Thursday evening during the summer. Don’t’ miss this event if you’re in the neighbourhood on a Thursday!

- Turn left in Gl. Rye and you’ll find yourself on one of the most beautiful stretches in Denmark. Turn right towards Bakbjerg and turn right again when you reach the main road. Now follow the signs to Himmelbjerget, where the first Danish constitution was founded and – if you’re hungry – go downhill through the forest to the very romantic restaurant Hotel Julsø at the bank of the Lake Julsø. Have lunch there and you won’t regret it, states Emil.
From Himmelbjerget there are only a few kilometres back to Ry and to the little harbour where motorbikers gather all summer.
