The Danish Lake District has a highly varied animal and plant life. And if you would like to come quite close to the life in streams or lakes, we can only recommend you to join one of the Freshwater Museum’s expeditions onboard the good ship “Gl. Turisten”.

A visit to the Aqua Freshwater Aquarium in Silkeborg is also a must. Here you can enjoy the sight of the playful otters and go exploring in the impressive activity and adventure centre. Many of the activities are based on the principle of Play & Learn. Touch the fish in the touch tank (if you dare) or study the many fish species in the gigantic aquaria. And don’t forget to allot time for some hours of fun in the playground where the water cannons are in position.

Ready for a swim? Follow the blue flag and plunge into Lake Knudsø or Lake Skanderborg. Both places offer family friendly facilities.
